Fireworks. Lightning. Fire.

Stone Mountain Laser Show

I hope everyone had a blessed July 4th weekend.  I spent all day Friday at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia.   I went with my sister and 8 year old nephew.  It was a wonderful day.  My nephew got to play Marco the Lion Tamer in their Backyard Circus.  We saw the Rock N Roll Country music review.  We waited in line for about 40 minutes to ride the incline to the top of the mountain.  I have not been up there since some time in the 80’s — when I actually hiked up there.  The Atlanta skyline was barely visible.  You can distinguish Buckhead from downtown Atlanta — two distinct sets of high rises.  I took photos with my camera phone.  I was saving them to my mini-disk and it turns out the mini-disk was corrupted.  I had no pictures when I got home — just garbled files.  This year marks the 25th anniversary of the laser light show.  We camped out near the railroad tracks — about 3 hours before show time.  It was the closest I’ve ever been to fireworks — it was a huge show.  It was so huge that it set a couple trees on fire behind the pyro staging area.  We stayed to watch the fire department put out the tree fires.

So… Saturday marked God’s fireworks in Fayetteville.  It was a dilly of a storm around 3:30PM.  I was caught out trying to shop — got caught in the storm.  I was trying to hurry before my cousins were to arrive at my house.  While out, my cousin called to say they were about a half hour away.  I hurried back home — as best I could — the torrential rain and cloud to ground lighting made it treacherous.  I breathed a sigh of relief upon pulling into my garage.  My cousins arrived about 40 min later and said the fire department was near the entrance to my subdivision.  Turns out a house was struck by lighting and caught fire.  It was badly damaged.  I was glad to have my cousins staying overnight at my house on Saturday.  My time at home is usually alone and it was nice to have company.

I’m working out my “Why I am Catholic” post.  It should coming out some time soon.  I will put out key points of my faith journey in little episodes.  I will be home in the morning waiting for the plumbing company to show up.  I pray there is no serious problem.

Have a blessed week.

  1. Well, praise is in order. The only problem with my water spigot is that it was shut off under my kitchen sink. Doh. At least I learned where my shut offs are located. The guy who installed my kitchen faucet last December shut it off – thinking it was the shut off for the kitchen. He told me it was for my kitchen. Guess he figured it was “on” because the water was running in my sink. Kind of nutty. I’ll not revisit the drama of my kitchen sink faucet from last year.
